Look after your beans

How to care for your roasted coffee beans

To get the most flavor and aroma from your coffee, it's important to handle the beans correctly. Coffee beans are a perishable product – and small adjustments in storage and grinding can make a big difference in the cup.

☀️ Storage – protect the flavor

Roasted coffee beans are sensitive to air, light, heat, and moisture. For best shelf life, we recommend that you:

  • Store the coffee in an airtight container/coffee bag with a valve.
  • Place the container in a dark and cool place
  • Avoid refrigeration and freezing (can cause condensation and affect flavor)
  • Keep the coffee in whole beans until you brew

👉 Stored correctly, coffee retains its character and aroma significantly longer.

Resting after roasting: You should wait at least 72 hours, but preferably 5–14 days after roasting, before using the beans to avoid a bitter/sour taste from carbon dioxide.

⚙️ Grinding – just before brewing

Coffee tastes best when it's ground just before brewing. When beans are ground, aromas are released quickly – and they disappear just as fast.

Recommended grind size:

  • Coarse – French press / cold brew
  • Medium – drip coffee / pour over
  • Fine – espresso / moka pot

Tip: A good coffee grinder provides a more even grind and better flavor than pre-ground coffee.

⏳ How long does coffee last?

  • Whole beans: Best within 1–4 weeks after roasting. Tastes good longer than that.
  • Ground coffee: best used within a few days

The flavor changes over time – coffee doesn't "go bad" in that sense or become dangerous, but it loses its complexity and freshness.

☕ Brew with care

Always use fresh, cold water and clean brewing equipment. Small details such as correct dosage and temperature (approx. 92–96 °C) can elevate coffee from good to fantastic.
